Discover Chefchaouene

Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Chefchaouen is a city in northwest Morocco. It is the chief town of the province of the same name and is noted for its buildings in shades of blue, for which it is nicknamed the "Blue City". It is situated in a mountainous region in northern Morocco, between Tétouan and Ouazzane.

Located in the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouene is a small town that is famous for its striking blue buildings that can be found throughout its winding streets. The blue color is said to have been introduced by Jewish refugees who settled in the town in the 1930s, and it has since become a defining characteristic of the area. The town also boasts a lively medina, where you can find traditional Moroccan goods and textiles, as well as a number of restaurants serving up delicious local cuisine.

One of the highlights of a visit to Chefchaouene is the opportunity to explore the surrounding mountains. There are a number of hiking trails that offer stunning views of the town and the surrounding landscape. One popular trail leads to the Cascades d'Akchour, a series of waterfalls that are perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot day.
